Learning by Rote
In this weeks lessons the students learnt a few new tunes by ROTE - copying what is shown them as opposed to playing from the notes on the page.
Especially important for beginners, learning by rote allows students to navigate up & down the whole keyboard, giving more understanding of the geography of the keys and developing the ability to memorise music by organising sections in their minds.

Composing
Week 2's task for all students this week was to write their own parts to a "call & response" song.
Everybody put in 100% effort and it was an eye-opening & rewarding exercise in creativity, and what it means to write your own music.

I'm really looking forward to expanding on and exploring more of this skill with all KJM students in the future!
